Building off of what participant's learned in Screenwriting 101, this intermediate writing course builds upon skills previously introduced such as story, structure, character development, and conflict, as well as providing more in depth focus on writing and pitching for other mediums such as television and the web. Writers will be encouraged to bring an ongoing project into class, be open to group feedback, and develop throughout the ten week timeline.

Prerequisite: Completion of Screenwriting 101 or interview with/approval by course instructor

Jason Long


Jason has been writing for film and theatre in Canada for over 20 years. He’s written three feature films alongside frequent collaborator, Robert Cuffley, Turning Paig, Walk All Over Me, and Chokeslam, which was part of the Canadian Film Centre’s Conedy Exchange Program in 2015 and premiered at the closing gala of the 2016 Calgary International Film Festival. In addition to story editing on many Alberta based film and television projects, Jason co-wrote an episode for the third season of the acclaimed Canadian television series, Blackstone. He is also the screenwriting instructor for SAIT’s Film and Video Program. You may also have seen him attempt to act in recent television series such as Young Drunk Punk and Wynonna Earp.
