The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers $100 Film Festival encourages new & experienced filmmakers to exhibit their short films. The festival is becoming one of the few festivals in Canada to screen only Super 8 and 16mm films as more festivals now allow digital formats. With its emphasis on screening Super 8 and 16mm film, the $100 Film Festival will continue to be a unique boutique festival that attracts the best of filmmakers from all over the world. The Festival provides audiences with an eclectic mix of drama, animation, comedy and experimental films, and also remains one of the few venues for first-time local filmmakers to exhibit their work. The $100 Film Festival is funded through community and corporate sponsorship as well as ticket sales. It pays screening fees to artists as well as cash awards in the categories of Best of Alberta, Best Super 8 Film, Best Animation, Best 16mm, Best First Film, Audience Favorite and a Jury Award. A panel of selected artists and community members choose all awards except for the Audience Favorite. The festival receives submissions from Calgary, across Canada, and internationally, especially in Europe where the tradition of Super 8 filmmaking is still quite strong. We will be publicized through local television, radio, and print. The festival draws over 1000 filmgoers each year, advancing CSIF's mandate of exhibiting filmmakers work to audiences.
