Pecker | Movies At The GRAND

Pecker | Movies At The GRAND

Join us for a one-night-only screening of Pecker (1998), a John Waters film about an amateur photographer, so-named because he pecks at his food. The film frames Pecker’s evolution from an amateur, snapping pics on shift at a Baltimore sandwich shop, to the new darling of the New York art scene. It’s a gritty view of life as an emerging artist and a sneak peek into the pitfalls of making it big in the Manhattan art world.

Starring Edward Furlong, Christina Ricci and Bess Armstrong, Pecker is an offbeat flick that grapples with the dilemmas that face those aspiring to turn their love for photography into a profession. Pecker is particularly relevant in today’s mobile photography world.

Pecker  is a special edition in Theatre Junction GRAND's Movies at the GRAND series, in honour of the Exposure Photo Festival. Expect a relaxed viewing experience with drinks and snacks on hand and a living room vibe.

To kick-off the event, CSIF will be screening Eva Colmer's Autumn.

Join a post-show discussion about the “art” of mobile photography and the impact it has had on photography as a fine art with Dona Schwartz, President and Board Chair of the Exposure Festival and Kurtis Lesick from the Faculty of Media Arts in the School of Craft and Emerging Media at ACAD.
