Double Take - May 19, 2011 |
|
The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers and The Calgary Cinematheque are pleased to present a double feature event! Join us for this surreal pairing of unconventional works and experience the thrill of Hitchcock as never before seen! "Double Take" is a Borgean meta-movie that transgresses the lines of fiction and documentary and is perfectly paired with its shadow-film "The Birds".

Alfred Hitchcock's "the Birds" (1963) @ 7pm A wealthy San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people there in increasing numbers and with increasing viciousness.
Johan Grimonprez's "Double Take" (2009) @ 9:15pm Director Johan Grimonprez casts Alfred Hitchcock as a paranoid history professor, unwittingly caught up in a double take on the cold war period. Subverting a meticulous array of TV footage and using 'The Birds' as an essential metaphor, DOUBLE TAKE traces catastrophe culture's relentless assault on the home, from moving images' inception to the present day.
