Production Sound Workshop
NEW DATES ANNOUNCED: Saturday January 21 and Sunday January 22 10am-5pm The two day sound recording workshop examines some of the history, the tools and the techniques of location sound recording for both film and television production. Many different worlds of sound recording will be examined: sound for film production, video production as well as documentary and reality TV sound. The workshop will also provide a “hands on” look at some of the gear in professional use today. Participants will look into the types of microphones and their characteristics, as well as the use of Nagra, DAT tape and hard disk recorders. We will learn about wireless technology and it’s use in the industry, the responsibilities and positions within the sound department and the fine art of using a boom or “fish-pole”.
We will review technical aspects including communication systems, playback situations, time-code, mixing consoles and post-production. Among other things, the workshop will discuss the sound departments interaction with other departments, Union and other affiliations, and valuable information including useful websites and the best places to find the tools of the trade. It will be two days packed with tips, tricks and lots of fun. Whether you are an aspiring sound engineer or just want to know a little more about the industry, these two days will open your eyes and especially your ears!
